R3 Upland Bird Hunt          March 3, 2024

The Yolo County Chapter #566 of Pheasants Forever hosted our annual R3 (recruit/retain/reinstate) hunt on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Raahauge’s Hunting and Sporting Clays, in Dunnigan, California. There were 51 participants who came out for this event. This hunt provided those who are new to pheasant hunting, an opportunity to harvest pheasants behind experienced dog handlers. There was even the opportunity for training dog handlers to get out behind the experienced dog handlers and learn some techniques. These hunters were able to harvest pheasants despite the chilly temperatures, winds, and rain. Every hunter was thrilled with the experience and will use their new skills to continue hunting in the future.

The event had help from Peter Maggenti and Kayla Ketchum as volunteers from the First Hunt Foundation who worked as chaperones out in the field during the hunt. We want to acknowledge all the great volunteer dog handlers and their well-trained dogs, who made the time in the field a phenomenal lifetime experience. Yolo County chapter of Pheasants Forever would also like to thank Raahauge’s Hunt and Sporting Clays and Rambo’s Guide Service for hosting this event. Finally, most of the photos are courtesy of Rick Delgado. Rick helps at all of these hunts by being a dog handler and taking photos. Thanks, Rick!
